Paal Kozhakattai and Parupu Vadai 🙂

Ingredients :

1 Cup Rice flour
1 1/2 Cup Water
1 1/4  Cup Jaggery
pinch of salt
1/4 tsp Gingely oil
1 Cup Coconut Milk
1 tsp Cardamom pwdr

Method:

1. In a pan bring 1 1/2 cups of water to boil along with salt and oil.

2. Once the water boils slowly add the rice flour and keep stirring without any lumps.

3.  Now we have a soft rice flour dough and let this cool for a while.

4. In a bowl  add the jaggery pieces with little water and let it dissolve  in a medium flame.

5. Once the jaggery completely dissolves, filter it out to remove stones or other impurities.

6. Now bring this filtered jaggery water to boil for about 6-8 mins until the raw smell goes off.

7. Meanwhile  apply few drops of oil to your fingers and knead the dough a little and make smooth small balls  out of them.

Kozhakattais – small balls made out of the rice dough.

8. Grease the Idli plate with some oil and arrange the  kozhakattais on them and steam it in a cooker for not more than 5 mins.

9. Now add the steamed kozhakattais to the boiling jaggery water and let it boil for 2 mins.

10. Add the coconut milk and let it boil for not more than 5-6 mins.

11. Add Cardamom pwdr and give it a stir and turn off the flame.

12. The Paal Kozhakattai is ready to serve. You can also serve it chilled.

TitBits 😀

* Don’t leave the rice dough open for a long time , they ll get dry. Start making  small kozhakattais once they cool down a little.

* Add only a very small pinch of salt to the boiling water otherwise ur kozhakattais ll taste salty.

* Don’t steam the kozhakattais for more than 5 mins as they ll harden.

* Add the Coconut milk only at the last and do not boil it for more than 5 mins.

* Make sure that the coconut milk is little thick as we don’t want the paal to be runny.

* You can add cashews and raisins if u want.

Paal Kozhakattai is an excellent sweet. I was really bored of the payasams and decided to make this yummy Paal Kozhakattais for this Tamil New Year 😀

I jus got reminded of my granny while making this. She used to make equal sized smooth kozhakattais  in a jiffy. We used to love this sweet in our childhood.

But it is  a real test to ur patience if u r making this yummy sweet for more than 2 ppl. You gotta make lotsa kozhakattais and at one point i myslef lost patience.  😦

Trust me!! Its all worth the effort once u get to taste this yummy Paal Kozhakattais 🙂

I jus love them!!! ❤

Try this for sure and enjoy the Paal Kozhakattais!!!

Thanks a ton!!
